Get on stage please – and …smile

Consul general Ludwig A. Greissl has over 50 years of experience with Nepal. He was able to provide stunning insights and to share amazing stories in his conversation with Katrin Mueller-Hohenstein, who moderated the event. Education, environmental protection and coping with the aftermath of the earthquake of 2015 are only three examples of the many issues Nepal is facing. According to consulate general Greissl the help of non-governmental organizations such as Future Citizens is indispensable and very important for Nepal to deal with these problems.

Also Gisela Straebler, the former chairperson of the association Freunde Nepals e.V. fell in love with Nepal many years ago. She shared various stories and experiences that she has gathered during the many trips to Nepal and during her visit to Future Citizen in Kathmandu.

Another contribution to the program came from Helga Hengge. She is an extreme mountain climber and provided exciting details about Mount Everest. In her presentation she took the audience all the way to the summit of the world’s tallest mountain. Luckily, the audience made it up there through Helga Hengge’s stories in just 45 minutes rather than a the week long, strenuous and dangerous climb that she went through herself.

And lastly Bibi Funyal who traveled from Kathmandu introduced his children’s fund in person. He explained his vision of a school in Jiri for 200 Students with an integrated boarding school for 50 students. Together with the Future Citizen organization in Germany, represented on stage by initiator Dr. Reiner Meierbeck and Andreas Wolter, Bibi Funyal committed to working on the project to such that the children from Jiri have a real chance for a better future.

In order to support this mission, the children’s fund Future Citizen needs support itself, too. While we already enjoy the support of multiple sponsors, we are looking for like-minded people that join us to deliver on Bibi Funyal’s vision and that are ready to make a long-term commitment to making a difference for the children of Nepal. For this we would like to thank our current and future sponsors! Your engagement is very important for our small organization; even the positive effect of an improved financial budgeting is extremely important.

We had a lot of good conversations with our 130 guests at the event and distributed many request forms for sponsorships. Our objective is to enlist more sponsors for our project, such that the next time the stage will be too small to provide enough room for all of them! One person alone can hardly achieve such a massive vision as laid out by Bibi Funyal. But if many of us join in, we will succeed in building a school in Nepal that provides children in need with the education they need to succeed in life. Let’s make it happen together!

Quote of the Day

“Just a moment ago, I looked at the profiles of the children. The favorite food of many children was an apple. This shows, how good our life in Germany really is.”
